August 2026 Update: Historic Conditions at Lake Eyre
Lake Eyre (Kati Thanda) is currently in full flood, with water levels at Belt Bay and Madigan Gulf reaching 2.5 metres as at 3 August 2026, the highest in over four decades. The lake is alive with birdlife, the desert is green, and the aerial views are extraordinary. Experts consider this the most significant filling event since 1974.
